Tom King
Big job for today was changing the kitchen faucet. The spout just fell off of the old one, that wasn't that old. Worst part was having to make a trip to town, which is a half hour one way. The new one was Really easy to install. Risers were built onto the faucet. JohnG
That possum would cross the yard on the fence every night at the same time, within 15min. For months. They stared at each other for a solid 5min without moving. Eventually the possum slowly turned around and resumed its nightly walk.
legenddc
Haven't seen a possum around here, only racoons. Went to touch up some paint last night only to realize I don't have the right color. Went through all our paint cans a while ago and brought anything that wouldn't open or had gone bad to the dump. I did take pictures of everything so I can get the color again but I'm having a hard time finding them on my phone.
Tom King
I got the cheap Chinese masonry saw assembled today, ready to cut the floor in the little bathroom house. I was hoping I could use the old black poly waterline going down there, at least for a little while. I've bought the PVC pipe to go down there back when prices had started to go up like crazy, but haven't trenched for that yet. The old pipe has so many leaks in it that it makes the water meter spin like a turbine, but I decided not to put any time into trying to fix that. That job will wait until I can get the PVC piping down to it. When I was trying to decide which saw to buy, I had first thought I'd go ahead and buy a Stihl, but looking at the lineup they have, I didn't want to reallys settle for less than their biggest one, and it would be close to 2 grand. It would have been another gas motor to keep up too, and I really might not need it for much, so I decided to get a cheap one from Amazon. Maybe it will last long enough to get this job done, and if it does, it will be cheaper than renting one, and going back and forth to get it and carry it back. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097Z79XZF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detail
Popular Post Tom King
I have some possum stories. Years ago, we heard a commotion in the hen house. I went out with a light, opened the door, and there was a possum sitting up on the roosts with the chickens. He was holding an egg in his front paws, had chewed the top off of it, and was eating out of it like a cup. I didn't want to shoot a gun in there, frightening the chickens out of laying. Here, it's illegal to relocate wildlife in woods anywhere else. I went back to the house, and there was a kids wooden baseball bat on the porch, so I went back and hit him in the head, thinking I had easily hit it hard enough to kill it, but without making a mess. He fell off the perch. I decided to leave it until the next morning to feed it to the buzzards. He had left, probably with a bad headache, but we never saw that one again. Some other time, there was one in the barn when I went out to feed the horses. They carry EPM. He saw me, and scurried into an open stall. I looked into that stall, and it was facing tightly in a corner, with his head down. He was hiding. Now knowing their heads are harder than I thought they were, I went back to the house and got the .410 single shot that I've had since it was given to me when I was 9 years old. The horses don't startle at a gunshot, but they know what I mean when I tell them to "hold your ears", so they trotted out a ways, and turned back to watch. With so much woodland around here, we see dead possums on River Road all the time. Playing possum is not the best defense against two oncoming bright lights. You've heard the question many times, but probably never the correct answer. Why did the chicken cross the road? To prove to the possum that it could be done.
Tom King
i was going to cut the rest of the parts for the bandsaw and drill press mobile bases today. I put the first piece in the bandsaw, and left it cutting while I was doing something else. My makeshift supports aren't working so good, so I ordered a proper roller stand. Another job on hold. All my woodworking roller stands are too high. Their minimum height is something like 27", and the bandsaw support for the piece being cut is 24". A heavier one is needed anyway. I thought the bandsaw clamp would hold the short piece in place............ This is more money than I wanted to spend, but the only one low enough, and easily adjustable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001LQXLS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Popular Post JohnG
Now that it’s warmer, I set up a small outdoor pen for our chicks to spend some time outside. Wire roof because the hawks have been very active.

I got a lot more than was pictured, 20+ logs total. Oak, hickory, and sycamore. One of my neighbors has a couple more sycamore and oak trees he wants taken out, so I’ll get those as well.

I don't really have that, but I do not recognize faces well. Something as simple as a different haircut will totally throw me off unless it's someone I know really well. I would be a police sketch artist's worst nightmare. But I can recognize a possum when I see it 1

Popular Post gee-dub
I was making some boxes and got a hair to try asymmetrical dovetails on the Leigh jig. When I do them by hand my DT's are almost always somewhat asymmetrical since I layout pretty loose to draw attention to the fact that they are hand cut. As my arthritis got worse I decided to go to a jig (Leigh Super Jig). Straight through dovetails are pretty easy. The asymmetrical DT's took a while this morning to figure out. I got good joints but not with the faces in the orientation I wanted. After lunch I had one of those "ah-ha" moments where your understanding of just what the heck is going on steps up a notch. I applied what I thought I had learned and all went well. I will cement this eureka moment by using this method on a few more box bodies tomorrow. There are times that being retired just plain rocks!
