Popular Post Coop
Every 5 years, we have a high school class reunion and this past weekend was our eleventh. When my wife and I go shopping and get disconnected, she will scan the store and look for an old grey haired guy. Saturday night, she had to use her cell phone to find me. 1
Popular Post Ronn W
Moved the cars out of the garage, laid out poly on the floor and moved all the first floor furniture into the garage. Carpet installers coming tomorrow.

BillyJack
Been to hardware store getting replacement bolts that are missing for the pattern. StI'll trying to find a solution to hold the duplicator to the lathe. I'm thinking Square u bolts from a tractor supply. Any thought on options? wtnhighlander
What would the U bolt go through on the lathe bed? Is there something between the ways that I am missing? Or do you just need bolts long enough to reach through the top of the base?
Popular Post Jonathan McCully
Finished getting my Saw Stop set up. Just need a power cord and I’ll be ready to go. Sold my previous table saw almost two years ago in preparation for our move to UT and have been using a co-workers when he has available time for me, so I’m incredibly excited to have my own space getting set up to begin work again. Will eventually put a shop on this property, but the family wants a pool first and I’m happy to oblige as they’ve given me some garage space for the time being.

BonPacific
That's a nice looking space, and a nice looking saw, even if you have to share it with the bikes and rakes.

Woodworking_Hobby
Finally got to do one of my favorite things today! The weather and life finally coordinated and I was able to burn some of the unusable off cuts from my last project. There is something about the stress relief or the final closure when getting rid of the final parts that way.
Popular Post drzaius
Not today, but yesterday we completed installation of 2 fans at YYC in transborder departures. These 24' trial fans are the culmination of months of meetings. If approved, there will be dozens more throughout the terminal. Lots of technical and logistical issues had to be resolved. Nothing ever gets done in a hurry at an airport. But the airport team was fantastic to work with. Very positive and always ready to help solve problems. It's been a great experience.
JohnG
Agreed. Back in the day I was involved in some design work at Dulles and it was slow moving and a lot of changing their minds about things.
BonPacific
A bad noise and a puff of smoke. Thankfully I think the smoke was just the belt burning up, and not the motor itself.

I don’t know about yours but I feel like my DeWalt is a pain to change the belt since it is so tight to get the new one back on.
BonPacific
Haven't done the belt before, just knives. That'll be a fun project. Might replace the knives too as long as I've got it opened up.

Coop
Hopefully the belt was just so old, it gave up and not due to something causing it to break.

Seems to be the most likely circumstance. I think this planer might be pushing 20, and I doubt it was ever replaced (it's technically my fathers, but has spent the last decade in my shop on permanent loan). The rollers were also having some gripping issues before it snapped, which would match up with a stretching/straining belt.
legenddc
Belts are always fun. Good luck getting it back on. Hopefully that helps the rollers i was trying to finish my trim yesterday but we had crazy weather. Sun and almost 50 and then rain, sun, snow/small hail, sun and warm, rain, etc. etc. During a rain spell I did fix the bathroom sink. The goal for the day in between kids stuff is to finish everything big and messy so I can bring the tools/trim back downstairs and see our dining room floor again.

legenddc
I love the things security causes issues with sometimes. Always good to hear stories about it. Got all the trim installed yesterday except for a few little pieces we didn't have the right color trim. House is most back together, no tools on the kitchen floor or extra pieces of trim. Will slowly keep patching holes and touching up trim this week at lunch or when the kids are in bed. Eventually I'll get extend the door jambs back to the floor but I need to get the house back together and my shop cleaned out first.

Air Marshal: Ok, what about my firearm? TSA: Oh that’s fine. Air Marshal: … ok.

Whatever is needed is okay. But even though the area we were working in was closed to the public, we couldn't leave our tools out of our sight for even a minute. There's a security checkpoint we have to go through before going airside, and it's just like when going through for travel. Except they were okay with my pocket knife and our tools. Even though the airport engineering team clearly know and are on friendly terms with the security staff, they still thoroughly check every piece of documentation and everything has to be exactly right.
