drzaius Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 For the last solid week we have had lows of -18 or -19 & at least some snow every day. I do not believe we will have a summer. Quote

We had some of that for a few weeks this winter and the oil bill was hard to take but we haven had it that bad for a while here . I'm wondering about summer also. Wife and I kid about doing some camping maybe in the fall. LOL Quote

Chestnut Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Well me being a good homeowner and trying to patch things properly backfired on me and now i have to paint 2 whole walls. All of the 6 gallons of paint they left were for every room in the house except the one I'm working on. I REALLY don't want to pain the whole wall with 11 foot ceilings. Then one of the gallons i tried rusted through the bottom and was unknown to me dripping all over the carpet. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANTED TO DO ON MY WEEKEND! 3 Quote
Tpt life Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 I have bought two foreclosures. On a teacher’s budget with a builder’s background, this is the biggest bang for my buck. This spring break week has been master bath remodel. Removing dropped ceilings and the squirrel leavings. There were quite literally hundreds of walnut shells up there. This house is a weird mix of good practice and hack work. Copper drain and water lines do not need to be touched. Power lines that were only run above the dropped ceiling need to be redone. Today, I am almost ready to start putting things back instead of pulling things out. 1 Quote
wdwerker Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 40 + years in the trades and I've only seen one home with all copper drains. 2" , 3" even 4" DWV copper. Apparently the guy who had the house built was in copper pipe wholesale. I wonder how big of a torch is needed to solder 4" copper ? The large fittings on the house I saw had cast brass fittings. Quote
Tpt life Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Yep Steve, cast brass fittings. You can tell the remodel work from about five years after this was built in the 50’s it didn’t get painted to match Quote
Chestnut Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 I'm surprised that made it through the copper price boom a few years back. Quote
wdwerker Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 A foreclosure in my neighborhood got broken into and stripped of all the copper & wiring. They just kicked the drywall out and followed every wire & pipe throughout the house. A $250,000. house auctioned for $30,000. The lot was worth more than that. Quote
Chestnut Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Did they end up demoing the house? At that point the demo cost is what drove the price down. Come on Pookie lets burn this motha down. Quote

Catco Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Started basement/workshop flooring renovation. Putting in a subfloor as the previous owner did a crappy job and put garage epoxy down and didn't prep the concrete at all... Before(With everything cleared out): Got the sleepers on the first half framed up: Had an interesting feature on the foundation: Rigid insulation cut and fit in: 6 Mil vapor barrier tacked down(Wife thought I was setting up a Dexter kill room): 23/32 Plywood cut and secured down: And mashed my finger real good while starting the other half, called it quits at this point: Had some friends over to play a board game, and used custom play mats that I designed and created: Fun filled weekend 2 Quote

Popular Post Chestnut Posted April 10, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted April 10, 2018 Walked into the kitchen this morning to watch this guy run across the yard. I'm glad my camera lives on my table, even though i get harassed about it often. I didn't want to take the time to download them this morning i was late for work. 4 Quote

Haven't decided on what to do with the walls yet. I was thinking of framing it in and adding insulation and running electrical but we only have a 100A panel for some reason, and 200A line service... Been trying to get my electrician cousin out to our place to put in a bigger panel and check things over with a fine tooth comb so when we finish up this place and sell it it'll be good to go. If I did the walls, I would want to do the ceiling, and with the HVAC ducting being where it is, if I put in a drop ceiling I would whack my head(I'm 6'3") every damn time. (Wife would be fine, she's 5'2") And it wouldn't' meet the requirements to be code for a finished area. So it would be money in for no return on investment. Chances are the boss will tell me to do something with the walls, which I will end up saying, "Yes ma'am," and hop, skip, and jump my happy ass down to the basement and do the work. And be on the lookout for, "The previous owner did a crappy job." stickers.... Quote
